2011 Event highlights
On the Sunday before the conference some delegates participated in the Annual Longwall Golf Day before heading to the Official Longwall Welcome Reception. More than 150 delegates gathered in the hotel bar to watch the All Blacks take out the Rugby World Cup. Monday saw the conference kick off with various case studies and site updates from Australian Longwalls including Rio Tinto’s Kestrel Mine, Vale’s Carborough Downs Broadlea and Xstrata’s Newlands Northern and Baal Bone sites. At the end of day one delegates enjoyed conference drinks in the exhibition hall before being bussed to Lindeman’s for the Longwall Conference Dinner. Dinner Sponsor as well as Platinum Sponsor BIS planned a night of surprises each relating to the Indigenous Australian theme including a special guest appearance from Wendell Sailor. Tuesday started with the famous Longwall BBQ breakfast before a second day of case studies and technology presentations. On Wednesday Allison Golsby facilitated a workshop delivering engineering solutions for continuous haulage. The workshop was sponsored by Diversified Mining Solutions and was well attended.
